Subject:Austin Chronicle Snubs George Kinney

Unbelievably, the Austin Chronicle is refusing to review the new Golden Dawn CD- Texas Medicine. Email their Chief Editor, Louis Black and tell him what you think of this. The Golden Dawn were one of the original Austin psychedelic bands and George is our buddy. It's time to go to bat for him. Post this around to. Who can believe this shit? Email Black here:
http://www.austinchronicle.com/info/email_directory.php?mailto=louis%26name=Louis+Black

If this doesn't *work" go to:
http://www.austinchronicle.com

Click the "contact" link in the footer at the bottom of the page. Look up Black there. Tell him what you think.

Don't let this go unanswered.

Subject:Learning more about Roky Erickson, the Elevators and other Texas r'n'r

This is an amazing site and lots of fun. I'm a fan of the Elevators and Roky Erickson since their first LP appeared but I also have records by Golden Dawn, Lost and Found and Red Crayola. Met and talked with
Lelan Rogers once when my band was touring thru Texas in the late 70s. Thanks for the work that's gone into building this site. I'll be back.

Subject:Power Plant- Original IA Mix Issued

Dear peoples, the Roky CD Club is proud to announce the release of the Golden Dawn’s seminal psychedelic LP- Power Plant. This is ripped direct from an original International Artists pressing. Our Audio Engineer spent TEN HOURS removing instances of surface noise BY HAND!

Power Plant should have been the second psychedelic album ever made but IA, scared that it would overshadow the 13th Floor Elevators, shelved it until 1968. In its grooves George Kinney mixes a potent “hit” of: LSD, the teachings of G. I. Gurdjieff and P. D. Ouspensky, Scientology, Eastern thought and more… This is all coupled with a Texas sound and loud fuzzed out guitars! Heaven on earth!

For those wanting to read something about the Golden Dawn go here:
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Underground/2507/goldawn.html

I have worn out a few CD’s of Power Plant. I started with Contemptables and then went to Eva (the French Contemptables). My current copy is the Sunspots issue. And I will tell you people; you are hearing Power Plant with completely new ears with this Roky CD Club issue! The sound is warm and vibrant. The mix is different too. The bells on Evolution are MUCH louder and continue through the entire song. That shit was mixed down and out on the CD. It’s just way, way, waaaaaay better here. This is THE CD issue of Power Plant.

If that isn’t bad enough we have new liner notes written by George Kinney himself AND we might be adding on the entire Radar EP just for giggles. This is a 1978, promo only, EP that was produced to be handed out at a Red Crayola reunion. This was meant to promote Radar as THE company reissuing the IA catalog from original tapes. The master tapes were still around then. This EP contains the only alt mix of a Golden Dawn song along with three other alts by the Lost and Found, 13th Floor Elevators and Red Crayola. That’s a nice little bit o’ filler. Additionally, each of the art inserts will be hand signed by George Kinney himself!

Now, we are collecting a gift of $10.00 for each disc. This will be delivered to George Kinney and will be the very first time he has seen a dime from Power Plant! You’re making that happen. You’re screwing the evil copyright owners and paying the artist a gift directly. And boy do they hate it but they can chew our shorts. Every bit of that $10.00 goes to George.

****SPECIAL DEAL- for $20.00 get Power Plant AND the second Golden Dawn album- Texas Medicine. This was released in 2006! All art comes signed by George! Texas Medicine kicks ass too. So this is it: fuck the copyright owners and get the best issue of Power Plant yet! Whotta deal! Don’t forget to get Texas Medicine too!

Our guy, Bearmelt, is doing the fulfillment here. You’re going to order the CD’s from him and he’s going to deliver them to you. Bearmelt also did the art for Power Plant. You can paypal him at this email. Bearmelt also takes (good) checks (must clear) and money orders. Email him and work it out. Here he is:
bsperrazza@snet.net

That's:
bsperrazza @ snet . net (remove spaces to mail)

This is a proud moment for the Roky CD Club and a great moment for Texas music.
